Former state Sen. John Lehman beat out “protest” candidate Tamra Varebrook in the 21st Senate District primary for the chance to face Sen. Van Wanggaard in the June 5 general election. Patch and WGTD 91.1FM are sponsoring a candidates forum on May 24 at Mount Pleasant Village Hall. Both Lehman and Wanggaard accepted our invitation weeks ago, pending the outcome of the primary. State Sen. Van Wanggaard (left) and former state Sen. John Lehman will participate in a live debate on May 24 at Mount Pleasant Village Hall. Wanggaard is the Republican senator representing the 21st Senate District and is under recall. Lehman, whom Wanggaard defeated in November 2010, is trying to get his old job back but first must face a “protest” candidate for the May 8 primary. The candidates forum is sponsored by Patch and WGTD Radio.

Former State Sen. John Lehman (D-Racine) wants his job back. He said on Jan. 31 that he’s ready, willing and able to challenge State Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) if the signatures check out and we have a recall in Racine County.
